Amazon Hiring 1000 for New Vancouver Office

November 14, 2017

Amazon announced last week that they'll be opening a new office in Vancouver and hiring for 1000 new positions!

On November 3rd, Amazon announced that they will be establishing a new Vancouver office at 402 Dunsmuir Street (source: The Georgia Straight). The new office will be an estimated 150,000 square feet and serve as the new home for 1000 future Amazon employees. Always dreamed of working for this global technology giant? Here’s your chance!

The Opportunity

As a tech company that specializes in cloud computing and e-commerce, Amazon is always in need of software engineers. When asked, Alexandre Gagnon, Vice President for Amazon Canada and Mexico, responded that roughly 90 percent of the current staff at the existing Vancouver office are software engineers. It is posited that 900 of the 1000 upcoming hires at the new Vancouver office will also be software engineers. If you are a computer science or engineering student, or simply someone with software engineering skills, this is a great opportunity that you won't want to miss.

What if I don’t have an engineering degree or computer science background? Amazon also hires a variety of different positions outside of engineering.  According to Amazon’s website, the company also hires roles in the following categories:

Our Recommendation

It's never too early to take action! As they say, the early bird gets the worm!

Although their office is still under construction (and the online job postings aren’t posted yet), Amazon is always screening applicants to fill their talent funnel. This is where your networking skills come into play. Try asking around your network to see if you can dig out some first-hand information on their hiring timeline. Try connecting with a couple of current Amazon employees for informational interviews to gain valuable insights and tips that could be the deciding factor of whether you land a position or not.
